This is an Adventure
That's what I said to Mike the moment we booked two out of state weddings back to back, and committed to shooting 5 weddings in 3 states in 2 weeks. When we started this in 2013, I had no idea where it would take us. I didn't know if we'd succeed or fail, burn out, or thrive.
Less than a year later, I left my steady, reliable design job (with lots of nice people and a beautiful office) to explore the business full time. For years we spent many of our weekends shooting weddings together, and it truly has been a great adventure.
but like all things, life has evolved.
After becoming a mom to two boys, my focus has started to shift, and it’s helped foster a greater passion for documenting other families. These days I primarily focus on newborns, families, couples, and a few small events per year. Mike is still very much a part of the business, but a little more behind the scenes as a child-wrangler, second shooter (when needed), image-culler, and my steady voice of reason.
In addition to people, i also photograph buildings & BRANDS. view that work here.
so in 2015, we bought a house.
Although I have so many wonderful memories here, we wanted to make it our own before we moved in. The first thing we did was tear out the carpet to reveal these beautiful wood floors - made of oak and pine.
The kitchen proved to be the greatest challenge as we tried to unveil what was once just a subfloor. Under three layers of vinyl, one layer of original linoleum, and some black tar adhesive, Mike scraped away to uncover the yellow heartpine floors, now extinct (and difficult to match we learned). As you can see below, it was a labor of love, and there are no regrets! Maybe one day we'll post about some of the other projects going on around here.
